Empower Yourself & Your Community

Be a Leader - Be an Ally

Thrive of the Heartland meets every Thursday evening from 5:30 - 8:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church.

Overview

  • Thrive Leaders commit to twelve months of partnership, attending sessions each Thursday of the month.  They begin the initiative by completing a twelve-week training course.  After graduating from the initial course, for the next nine months, Leaders use the tools they gained to set goals and work on their journey out of poverty while paired with Allies from the community.  Dinner and childcare are FREE to participants so that focus can be on education and completion of goals.

  • Thrive Allies commit to ten months of partnership, meeting with Thrive Leaders twice each month.  They begin by participating in a four-week training course.  Upon completion of the course, Allies will be paired with Leaders to begin a nine-month partnership of learning and collaboration.  Allies attend program the first Thursday of each month, meet with their Ally once per month outside of program, and are encouraged to attend on other Thursdays during the month if their schedule permits.

Phase I

  • Leaders complete a 12-week training course. The weekly sessions analyze poverty and barriers that keep individuals from moving out of poverty.   Leaders will create S.M.A.R.T. goals, examine support systems, and build a foundation towards financial stability.

  • Allies complete a 4-week training course. The weekly sessions examine socioeconomics within our community and prompt group discussions regarding available resources and bridges out of poverty.

Phase II

  • Leaders are paired with one or two Thrive Allies following graduation from the 12-week Leader Training Course.  Allies are community members who want to be in a supportive, intentional, befriending relationship with an individual or family as they work to become financially stable.

  • Allies are paired with a Thrive Leader following the four-week Ally Training Course.  Thrive Leaders are community members who want to be in a supportive, intentional, befriending relationship with key supporters as they work to create a personalized bridge out of situational or generational poverty.

Phase II continues for nine months.

  • FIRST THURSDAY OF THE MONTH:  GOAL CHECK-IN

    • Thrive Leaders and Thrive Allies meet to discuss progress toward Thrive Leaders' goals.

  • SECOND & THIRD THURSDAYS OF THE MONTH:  MONTHLY TOPIC EXPLORATION

    • Each month, Thrive Leaders will continue skill-set development based on specific cohort needs.  Monthly topics may include healthy cooking on a budget, financial literacy and credit, GED and post-secondary opportunities, self-care and parenting, and mental and physical health.

  • FOURTH THURSDAY OF THE MONTH:  BIG VIEW COLLABORATION

    • During some months, on the fourth Thursday, Leaders and Allies will have the opportunity to sit down with community leaders to discuss barriers in our community that are keeping families from moving out of poverty and brainstorm what we can do to make a change.

  • FIFTH THURSDAY OF THE MONTH:  FUN!

    • If there is a fifth Thursday in a month, Thrive plans something fun for everyone!

Phase III

Beyond 12-months, it is up to the Leader and Ally if they would like to continue working as a matched Support Team.  For some, getting out of poverty and staying out of poverty takes longer than twelve months.  For other Leaders and Allies, they may continue their journies by each returning as an Ally during the following 12-month cycle.   Each individual is unique and Thrive of the Heartland is here to support each participant!
